About Vintage Stripes Barber Academy
From small towns to major cities, barbers are a staple in any community. At Vintage Stripes, our mission is to connect new generations with this age-old trade, so they can keep our traditions alive and experience the pride that comes with a good day’s work. We offer full barbering courses, including straight razor barbering, for full barber certification in the State of Kentucky.
The Man Behind the mission
Jesse Phillips, Owner
Born and raised in Rushville, IL, Jesse spent 10 years serving in the US Army before attending Western Kentucky University working toward a degree in Business Marketing. He then earned his Barber’s Certificate from South Central School of Barbering in Bowling Green before manning his first chair at Headquarters Barbershop in Owensboro, KY. In 2014, Jesse joined the city’s revitalization movement and opened one of Owensboro’s last gentlemen’s barber shops, Riverwalk Razor. Today, Jesse is the owner of Western Kentucky’s only barber school, Vintage Stripes Barber Academy, in Owensboro. He is bringing career opportunities and affordable barbering to his community.

After graduating from McLean County High School in 2010, Corey made his way to Madisonville Beauty College to complete his Cosmetology License. Wanting to turn his focus to classic barbering techniques, he enrolled in the Barber College of South Central Kentucky and completed his training program in 2017. Since then, he’s attended the annual Nashville Hair Show to further his education and grow his skillset. Corey will be stepping into his next role as an instructor at Vintage Stripes Barber Academy, after completing his Barber Instructor License in 2021. While keeping his nose to the grindstone and focusing on his career, Corey’s always managed to make time for the two great passions in his life: making music and sitting in the woods.
